Your River

We rode together on that journey
Somehow we survived the storm
The road less travelled
is hardly ever calm
After we reached our destination
you took the highway, I chose a home
Now crossing paths several years later
still the same.. you havent grown

But I should tell you that
your river has a waterfall
Blissful drifting doesn’t last forever
and i don’t want you to endure any harm
I hear lately you’ve been slipping
your ship is sinking
the flooded engine’s going to stall
Yeah, today the weathers balmy but
this river has a waterfall

I go to work, make it home
try to pay most of these bills
Money gets gobbled up like groceries
avarice burnt away like life’s cheap thrills
Family time now is priceless
Life begins and ends with
prayers, smiles, and meals
And I’m trying to teach the youth
how to avoid contracting certain
social ills

And i really want to tell you that
your river has a waterfall
Take your coupe off cruise control
you’re racing straight towards a concrete wall
I know we used to ride together
but that time is over now, move on
A true friend has got to warn you
your river has a waterfall

We’re both expecting a king
We’re all soldiers.. everyone’s fighting some war
She wants peace, you want wealth, they want power
We all will carry scars
Your river was my river
when we moved as a unit, as one
And the bell that tolls for thee, tolled for me
as written by John Donne

But i got to reiterate
We’re floating to a waterfall
Those seven lean years are coming
Need to heed the village fool’s warning call
Take flight while we’re still able,
escape in these few minutes
before the storm
True friend has got to warn you
this river has a waterfall
