And Remember
-Josiah Vermont

They come to cut my hair, bring me food and some new clothes
They don’t stay too long, got important places to go
Such lovely good intentioned people, some you might even know
And they ask me what time I’m going to bed

I’m too old for the V8 now.. well, maybe one last time
Too old to dance ‘til sunlight, but I’ll still give it another try
Too old to be interrogated for once loving you and why
Too old to stare at that door wondering “when?”

But you remember we drove all night until the sky transformed into dark
And remember you shared secrets from a once-tender-for-me heart
And remember the lives we changed until the day we chose to part
And remember the free lives that we both led

If you don’t respect the father, you won’t honour the son
If you’re everybody’s friend you won’t have use for a weapon
And if you refuse to stand for something, you’ll fall for anyone
And then I guess enough words have been said

But remember those starry nights and that v8 engine hum
And remember the crowded rooms where we spent hours when we were young
And remember how I was still standing when you saw the whole crowd run
And remember we’re the last ones left
