Boat Drinks
-Josiah Vermont
Time is running out on me
and she’s never coming back
I’ve outlasted all my enemies
Lived on both sides of the tracks
Am i too hard for this generation?
Too soft to have lived in another?
Have i been a disappointment?
Have i been unkind?
Did i bring honour to my mother?
May i be remembered by my friends
with a smile or twinkle in their eyes
And may we share those boat drinks
that never came-
that Parting Glass in paradise
I know time is bleeding out
The ticking clock’s been on my mind
But i have lived, fought, and loved..
there’s no need to press rewind
Yes, I would dance a little longer
thrive in ties that bind
This lonely ride is not goodbye,
just my turn crossing the finish line
Still, the sands of time have run out on me
leaving this small, wistful sigh
Just a few more minutes
with you standing
by my side
