Only Thorns
-Josiah Vermont

Tried following in your parent’s footsteps
I wanted to walk the path of mine
That we would end up miles apart
going separate ways
is no surprise
The bitterness you carry now
existed long before the split
You called me vain and manipulative
when you were the definition of it
I led you down a road you never belonged on
that was my fault
You said to choose between you and my father
and changed the locks
Could never see a brighter perspective,
nearly there, the glass half full
I watched an angel in distress
turn into the queen of cruel
Your suit doesn’t fit me
put it back on the shelf
This rose has only thorns left
maybe it suits somebody else
